According to Sparks,
"The Notebook was originally inspired by the story of my wife’s grandparents. They had a rare and beautiful relationship, one that withstood the test of time and circumstance. When I first met them, they had been married over sixty years, and I remember marveling at how much they still seemed to care for each other. The Notebook attempts to portray such a love. That said, The Notebook is a novel, not a memoir. Many changes were made regarding their story, in order to make the novel more universal, while staying committed to my original intent."
First a little about the plot, The Notebook is a modern romantic tale set in the pre-and post era of the World War II. The book began with Noah Calhoun, the male protagonist, an old man, reading the following story to an elderly woman, Allie, the female protagonist, suffering from Alzheimer in a nursing home,
Noah aged 31, returns to his town from World War II and finishes restoring an antebellum-style house. In the meantime, Allie, who is 29 and just about to get married, reads about the house in the newspaper and decides to visit Noah there.
The beauty and strength of this novel was how every time, despite of all the circumstances, they always chose each other. In the beginning, the writer has depicted the craziness and boldness of their young love and how they connected just after their first meeting. Followed by their heartbreak, their separation, their pain and aching love, only to make us realize the power of love and how it changes our fate. They reunite after 14 years, this time they are mature, have responsibilities and a completely different life yet after meeting just for once, they again felt the fire of love and their burning emotions. And then in the end, when she has forgotten every being of her life, He kept reading their precious love story to her again and again. With all her forgetfulness, she still managed to fall for this weak old man with Grey hair and wrinkly skin, believing their love will take them away together.
This sowed the very idea of everlasting and endless love that sometimes, only a few times, when you're lucky, or when you're the most luckiest person of this world, you happen to fall in love of this kind. No matter what happen next, if or not you both end up together, it stays the best and the most precious feeling of this universe. And they were the luckiest to not just feel it or live it but to stay and end up together. :')
Below are all my favorite quotes from the novel, read and share!!
