About today, Google has announced the launch of “Family Link”, a kind of software for parents that will enable them to control the mobile devices of their kids by establishing the first Google account for their offspring.
It will help them to set certain digital ground rules like choosing the apps your kid is allowed to use, keeping an eye on screen time, and set their bedtime.
The blog post of Family link said,
With the Family Link app from Google, you can stay in the loop as your kid explores on their Android* device. Family Link lets you create a Google Account for your kid that’s like your account, while also helping you set certain digital ground rules that work for your family — like managing the apps your kid can use, keeping an eye on screen time, and setting a bedtime on your kid’s device.
It will give them parental control but it will not block any inappropriate content once approved.
How It Works?
The question that arises now is how it works. The answer is simple and easy.
First of all, you need a new device that runs Android Nougat (7.0) or higher for your kid. Then, download Family Link onto your Android device and after downloading it, create a Google Account for them through the app. Finally, sign them into their new device.
You can then use Family Link to help you:
Manage the apps:
It lets you approve or block the apps your kid wants to download from the Google Play Store.
Watch out their screen time:
This includes weekly or monthly activity reports. You can also set daily screen time limits for their device.
Set device bedtime:
You can remotely lock your kid’s device when it’s time to play, study, or sleep.
Unlike Apple suggesting as to whether a given app should be approved, Google doesn’t do that, however, it let parents decide it on their own.
Furthermore, having an independent app that lets parents control their kids' device will be actually helping, and it could also become a selling point for Android phones and tablets.
However, it is not yet broadly available, but it will be soon. So all you parents, Happy Parenting!!
